Restoring the Deschutes Estuary

The Department of Enterprise Services is managing one of the largest estuary restoration projects of its kind in an urban area in the United States. The Deschutes Estuary Restoration Project will reconnect the lower two miles of the Coast Salish Sea with its natural ecosystem, restoring a part of the Washington State Capitol Campus to an estuary setting. The area has rich cultural and historic significance, and is the heart of the downtown Olympia, WA community. The project will improve ecological conditions, achieve state water quality standards, improve climate resilience, and restore recreational boating and fishing in the waterbody.
